Newton Enterprises: 75 Years Strong

Newton Enterprises was born in 1952, in the heart of the Canadian Prairies, when a small country store first opened its doors to serve local families and farmers. Originally operating as a Red & White store, it quickly became more than a place to shop, it was a gathering spot, a source of connection, and a cornerstone of the community.

As the decades passed, the business evolved alongside the people it served. Newton Enterprises expanded its offerings to include hardware, building materials, and construction services, growing from a humble general store into a trusted name in Manitoba’s building industry.

With every board sold and every project completed, the company built its reputation on reliability, integrity, and hard work, values that still define it today.

When the second generation of the Newton family took the reins in 1983, they carried forward that same spirit of craftsmanship and community.

Under their leadership, Newton Enterprises became known as a premier building materials supplier and general contractor throughout Portage la Prairie and beyond, helping to shape homes, businesses, and lives across Manitoba.

In 2024, Newton Enterprises began a new chapter when it was acquired by the McPhail Brothers, an entrepreneurial family with deep roots in Manitoba’s construction industry.

The McPhail Brothers bring fresh energy, innovation, and a shared respect for the legacy built over more than seven decades.

Their vision blends tradition with forward thinking, honouring the company’s past while expanding its future through new products, services, and community partnerships.

Today, Newton Enterprises continues to stand for what it always has: trust, quality, and a deep commitment to building Manitoba—one project, one relationship, and one community at a time.
